Zoro’s absorption of Luffy’s pain on Thriller Bark was a One Piece highlight. He exhibited mental and physical strength by surviving this discomfort. Jewelry Bonney faces a similar trial.
In Chapter 1074, “MK. III,” she’s struggling to process her father Bartholomew Kuma’s tragedy. The trial differs from Zoro’s but should get similar findings. It should reveal her resolve and develop her character.
How Are Bonney’s Memories Like Zoro’s?

Thriller Bark ended with Zoro’s trial. After defeating Gecko Moria, the Straw Hats faced Kuma. Then-Warlord Zoro made a pact. After using his Paw-Paw powers to remove all the pain Luffy gathered during his struggle with Moria, he had Zoro absorb it to save the Straw Hats. Zoro endured Luffy’s severe anguish because he loved his captain and crew. This showed Zoro’s loyalty, endurance, and determination.
Bonney’s trial is less physically demanding but still tricky. Kuma purged all his memories, including terrible ones like being a Celestial Dragon enslaved child, into a room on Egghead. Bonney couldn’t bear to see her father’s younger self beaten. She watched it all to understand Kuma and why he did what he did.
If Bonney finishes this trial, it will improve her character. Bonney must strengthen her resolve to end her problem, unlike Zoro, who could finish because of his latent determination. Though unpleasant, she should emerge mentally more robust and wiser. This is before she learns about Kuma and how it would affect her future decisions. The short-tempered, impulsive girl from the Egghead arc may change after this self-imposed task.
Bonney’s Worst Generation status predicted she would get lots of attention. She should become a fan-favorite like Trafalgar Law or Eustass Kid. Her on-screen character growth may help her reach that level. Zoro’s endurance and willpower test improved him, which should help her too. If this goes like Zoro’s trial, she may say, “nothing occurred.”
